Spinach – Matador

Matador spinach produces blistered leaves that are delicious raw or cooked. A robust plant that can be cut as it grows or when it is fully formed, but it should be eaten within two to three days of harvesting as it does not keep long. Cold resistant and slow to set seed.

 

Growing tips

 

Conditions of germination:

depth of sowing: 1.5 cm

optimal temperatures of germination: 5 to 22ºC

time for germination: 7 to 14 days

 

When to sow:

direct and successive sowing every 3-4 weeks when the soil can be worked in spring until September

 

Sowing technique: in line

draw a line in the soil (in a pot or in the ground) then place the seeds at the indicated distance according to the variety or according to the desired harvest (young or mature plant)

 

Distance in the garden:

between plants: from 5 cm (for small leaves) to 15 cm (for larger leaves)

between rows: 30 cm

 

Plant height: 25 cm

 

Soil: fertile and well drained

 

Exposure: full sun or light shade

 

When to harvest: 25 to 30 days for young leaves, 45 to 50 days for mature leaves

 

Specificity: Cut young shoots as you need them or when they reach 10 cm to encourage more leaves on the plant during the season.
