Pea – Utrillo

Dwarf pea with wrinkled seeds to be shelled, the Utrillo variety produces long pods of about 12 cm length well filled with sweet dark green seeds (about 8 to 10 per pod). This variety offers a good yield. Sow in spring for a summer harvest and in mid-summer for a fall harvest.

Growing tips

Conditions of germination:

depth of sowing: 2.5 cm

optimal temperatures of germination: 5 to 20ºC

time for germination: 7 to 14 days

When to sow:

direct sowing when the soil can be worked in spring

Sowing technique: in line

draw a line in the soil (in pot or in the ground), then sow the seeds

Distance in the garden:

between plants: 5 cm

between rows: 45 cm

Height of the plants: 75 cm

Soil: rich and well drained

Exposure: full sun or light shade

Days to harvest (from sowing): 70 days

Specificities:

peas can be sown tightly, as they tolerate being crowded;

can be sown successively, but since peas prefer cooler climates (germination rate decreases with heat), they are usually sown in the spring until mid/late May for a summer harvest, and then towards the end of July/early August for a fall harvest
