Growing tips
Conditions of germination:
depth of sowing: 2.5 cm
optimal temperatures of germination: 10 to 30 ºC
time for germination: 7 to 14 days
When to sow:
direct sowing after any risk of frost when the soil is warmed up and the temperature remains above 18-21 ºC
Sowing technique: in line
Draw a line in the soil (in a pot or in the ground), then sow the seeds in it.
Distance in the garden:
between seeds: 7.5 to 10 cm*.
between plants: 20 to 30 cm
between rows: 45 to 60 cm
Height of the plants: 150 to 200 cm
Soil: well drained, humid, fertile
Exposure: full sun
Days to harvest: 70 days
Specificities:
*Thin out after germination when seedlings have 3 true leaves or are 5 cm tall. Transplant or eat the removed plants.
Massed cultivation (in blocks of 4 to 6 small rows) gives better results than cultivation in a single long row since it increases the chances of pollination between male and female flowers (silks) on the plants.
The corn is ready to be harvested when the cobs look like they are about to collapse and the silk ends have turned brown.
