Chives – Garlic

Garlic chives, also known as Chinese or Oriental chives, have a garlic-like flavor. Its relatively flat and arched leaves as well as its pretty white flowers also distinguish it from the common chive. It is a perennial plant (hardiness zone 3) that is used fresh, but can also be preserved dried or frozen.

Indoor sowing 4 to 6 weeks before the last date in your area OR

direct seeding in spring or early fall

Within the same hole, sow 3 to 5 seeds 1 to 2 cm apart; when the seeds have germinated and the seedlings are 5 cm tall, keep all the plants if space is available or keep only the best plants.

*For indoor sowing, a cold treatment in the refrigerator accelerates germination. Place the seeds on the potting soil, wrap the pot containing the seeds and the potting soil in a transparent plastic bag and place them in the refrigerator for 14 to 28 days. After the treatment, germinate under the usual conditions of heat and light, before transplanting to the garden
