Cauliflower Super Snowball

A large, upright plant with leaves that naturally curve and wrap around the white flower bud, Super Snowball Cauliflower forms a white head 15-20 cm in diameter. The self-blanching foliage phenomenon occurs in cool weather, making it ideal for fall harvest. If seedlings are started indoors in late spring for an earlier harvest, hand tie the leaves to cover the head and avoid sunburn.

Growing tips

Conditions of germination:

depth of sowing: 5 mm

optimal temperatures for germination: 21 to 27ºC

time for germination: 5 to 10 days

When to sow:

indoor sowing 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost date in your area for an early harvest OR

direct sowing after any risk of frost for a fall harvest

Sowing technique: in pocket

Inside the same hole, sow 3 to 5 seeds spaced 1 to 2 cm apart; when the seeds have germinated and the seedlings have reached a height of 5 cm, keep all the plants if space is available or keep only the best plants.

for indoor seedlings: harden off the plants outdoors before transplanting them into the garden

for direct seedlings: thin the plants for their final location in the garden

Transplanting outdoors (for indoor seedlings):

When all risk of frost has been eliminated

Distance in the garden:

between plants: 45 cm

between rows: 60 cm

Height of the plants: 75 cm

Soil: rich and well drained

Exposure: full sun

When to harvest (after transplanting): 65 to 75 days (add 15 days for direct sowing)

Specificities:

Cauliflowers are ready to harvest when the heads are firm and formed, so they can be eaten at different sizes, depending on the desired size.
