Carrot – Rainbow Blend

The Rainbow II mix contains carrots of different colors (red, orange, purple, white and yellow). It is a mixture of open pollinated and hybrid varieties. The cylindrical and elongated carrots measure between 15 and 20 cm and are sweet and crunchy.

depth of sowing: 5 mm

optimal temperatures of germination: 18 to 29 ºC

time for germination: 7 to 21 days

When to sow:

direct seeding when the soil can be worked in the spring or after the last frost in your area when the soil temperature remains above 7.5ºC

successive sowing every 3 weeks until August for a continuous harvest

Draw a line in the ground (in a pot or in the ground), then sow the seeds in it

between rows: 20 to 30 cm

Specificities:

thin out (remove) the young plants when they are 2 cm tall in order to give enough space to the remaining roots (allow an average spacing of 4, 6 or 8 cm between plants, depending on the variety); removed seedlings can be eaten

after the removal of the plants (the fact of removing the plants too close together), butter (bring back the soil around the base) to avoid that the collar turns green but also as a preventive measure against the carrot fly which lays its eggs nearby
